Job Title: Practice Accountant

Location: Lagos

Job Description

• Practice Accountant needed at a law firm in Lagos.
• The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the accounts of the law firm

Job Function

• Provide financial services support to the firm, for such activities as: invoice processing, payment scheduling and processing, vendor account management, client account management, staff advance accounting and administration, funds receipt processing, payroll disbursement, etc.
• Maintain the books of accounts of and general ledger of the firm by service offering
• Maintain the firm’s fixed asset records/ register and ensure proper accounting for fixed assets
• Co-ordinate the budget preparation, monitoring and control process, in line with agreed policies and procedures
• Analyse budget performance, identify and obtain explanations for significant variances
• Develop/update the management information report framework and templates, including defining the templates for data and information gathering across the firm
• Compute accurately and file all Federal, State and Local tax returns to ensure the firm’s compliance with all tax laws and regulations
• Monitor and track debtor position/account receivable and facilitate timely recovery of debts.
• Regularly follow-up with practice Senior Associates to ensure timely and complete revenue collection.
• Prepare weekly client account balances and ageing summary schedules for the attention of the Practice Manager and Senior Associates
• Ensure accurate accounting and reporting of the revenue generated by the firm

Education & Competency Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required
• 3-5 years accounting experience required; preferably within a law firm or professional services environment
• Proficient with the use of accounting softwares
• Experience with MS Excel required
• Excellent communication and analytical skills
