COST ACCOUNTANT
RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning,
Studying, and collecting data to determine costs of business activity
such as raw material purchases, inventory and labour.
Analyzing data collected and recording results
Analyzing changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided, to determine effects on cost
Analyzing actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs
Recording cost information for use in controlling expenditures
Analyzing audits of costs and preparing reports
Making estimates of new and proposed product costs
Ensure timely submission, accuracy and validity of inventory, gross margin schedules to management
Providing management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services.
Support and assist internal department reporting requirements such as audit schedules, tax schedules and others
Maintaining Cost Accounting System
Assisting in Month end close of the General Ledger
Conducts physical inventories and monitors cycle count program
Reconciles finished goods inventories
Prepare, analyze and report weekly, monthly, quarterly gross margin analysis by brand by customer type
Assist in month-end closing, prepare journal entries as necessary, analyze inventory evaluation, inventory roll forward
Prepare collateral reporting
Analyze cost accounting data and assist with cycle count/physical inventories
Review
and analyze inventory and margin reports, conduct research and perform
analytical studies in regards to cost analyses and profitability
Work in special projects as required
QUALIFICATIONS
B.Sc./HND in Accounting and must be ICAN or ACCA certified
Minimum of 2 solid years of Cost Accounting in a Manufacturing Environment
Must have a strong Cost systems background and have excellent analytical skills; sound understanding of accounting principles.
Computer Literate, Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office products
Proficient in Peachtree
Experience working with manufacturing personnel on development and analysis of cost standards
Ability to accurately prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports
Ability to apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles & Cost Accounting Standards
Must be able to adapt to new and different computer programs and software to enable efficient data gathering and analysis
Good written, verbal communication and collaborative skills
Ability to analyze and reconcile complex accounts and reserves
Strong organizational and communication skills
Detail oriented
Food manufacturing industry background preferred
Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
